Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, has introduced a new text-based social media platform that resembles Twitter in many ways.
The platform is developed and managed by the same team that is responsible for Instagram, one of the most popular photo-sharing apps in the world.
Unlike Twitter, which limits users to 280 characters per tweet, Meta's platform allows users to write up to 500 characters per post.
There is also no restriction on how many posts a user can make in a given time period. Users can interact with each other by having conversations, replying to threads, tagging other users, liking and sharing posts.
The platform aims to provide a space for people to express themselves and connect with others who share their interests. However, not everyone is convinced that the platform will uphold the values of free speech and privacy that are essential for online communication.
Some critics have pointed out that Meta has a history of censoring content and collecting user data for advertising purposes. They also question how the platform will handle misinformation, hate speech and harassment.
Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and founder of Tesla and SpaceX, has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with Twitter and its policies. He redeemed Twitter by making sure that free speech and privacy features are of top priority for him.
Mark's Threads could pose a threat to Musk's ambition to make Twitter profitable in the social media landscape
